Getting Started

The aim of this site is to help make sense of the various options and requirements when choosing a system for synchronous communication.

By synchronous communication we mean things like instant messaging, video conferencing and web conferencing.

Before choosing a new communication system it is a good idea to identify what you want to use it for, what benefits you expect to get out of using and what your priorities are.  You are unlikely to find a ‘one size fits all’ solution so prioritising requirements should help you make an informed choice.

In the ‘Questions to ask‘ section of this site we have identified a number of questions which should help you identify these priorities.

The ‘Definitions‘ section includes a number of terms related to synchronous communication including features of the different systems which might also be useful in identifying different priorities.
